Dennis Menard in the Pits Dennis Menard began his racing career helping as a crewman on the Menard Bros. '57 Chevy with his older brothers, Pauland Dick. In 1977 Dennis bought the 1969 Dodge Dart. It had a 340 engine which he replaced with a Chevy 427 big block that he got from his brother, Paul. Dennis drove the car on the street for a couple of years.

In 1979 he made his first trip to New England Dragway. He ran in AA Bracket for a while. After updating the heads with Chevy bowtie aluminum, the car ran ETs in the low 10s. In the winter of 1981, Dennis built a steel-tube chassis for the car and updated the engine to a 482ci with fuel injection powering the car to the low 9 seconds. He campaigned the race car at Connecticut Dragway for a few years, competing in Super Eliminator and collecting a few wins, finishing in 11th place in the points chase one year. In 1984 Dennis built a 540ci engine. With the help of Creb Engineering, Dennis got the car running in the high 8 second zone.

With the closing of Connecticut Dragway in 1985, Dennis returned to New England Dragway and raced in Super for a number of years. He updated the chassis again in the early 90's. The car now has a 598ci engine and still has the fuel injection. His current best ET is 8.3 seconds @ 169 MPH.
