Scott Menard was born into a drag racing family in 1965. He started going to the races as a kid with his dad and uncle, Paul & Dick, who were running the Menard Bros. 1957 Chevy, Mr. Freeze, at tracks all over the Northeast. Scott spent a lot of race days with his uncle, Dennis Menard, driver of the 1969 Equalizer Dodge Dart, and started racing himself at age 16 in Connecticut.
He raced a 1970 and a 1974 Chevy Camaro, winning numerous Street Eliminator trophies. After taking a few years off, Scott bought a 1976 Chevy Corvette in 1989 and started racing it in 1990, running in the 10 second zone. He powered it with a Chevy 454 engine with cast iron heads and a turbo 350 transmission. The Vette was named Headstrong in 1992.
Scott and Dennis rebuilt the Vette with a full tube chassis in the winter of 1993. The new Headstrong Corvette, with its new paint, debuted at New England Dragway in September, 1994. In January, 1995, Scott's Vette came in second place to Lee Roby's Chevy II in the Special Interest class at the Boston World of Wheels Show. Scott won his first New England Dragway Super Eliminator race July 23, 1995, days before his 30th birthday. On August 7 that year, Scott married his wife, Julie.
In 2006, the Menards decided to start running the New England Dragway Hot Rod Series, a 10.90 index class. Scott went on to win two races that year and grabbed the championship for the series. Scott and crew raced to a second championship in 2011 in the Action Racing Photos Super Street series at N.E.D. , winning 2 Super Street races as well as 2 Super Gas races.
